OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1998 in Carin Smith’s kitchen,
CARR began with just 6 members from different institutions united by their roles as regional representatives. Stronger together, their camaraderie and cooperation grew into professional development opportunities, counselor events, and more.

As more institutions stationed regional representatives in Chicagoland, CARR grew in size and capability. In 2004, CARR had only 42 members. In 2024, CARR is comprised of 110 members representing 73 colleges and universities from the United States (28 states) and around the world.

OUR GOALs

We host professional development events for college representatives, organize an annual outreach and update event for Chicago area counselors, and partner with high schools and community based organizations to educate students and families about the college search and admission process.

As regional representatives, we collaborate to identify recruitment events across Chicagoland, provide expert speakers for local counselors and host annual networking opportunities and professional development events to foster growth and engagement.
